管道建成后，为了便于对管道的养护和检修，依靠沿线设置的管道标记桩找到管道的准确位置。管道标记桩主要包括转角桩、里程桩、阴极保护测试桩等，穿越铁路、公路、较大河渠、电缆及其他管道处应设置标志桩，对于所有转角都应设置转角桩，管道在线路整公里处设置永久性标志里程桩，有些危险品运输管道的建设过程中，管道标记桩兼作阴极保护测试桩。
